The Globalopen Terrain 30cm Physical Relief Globe is a three-dimensional physical geography globe featuring tactile raised terrain — mountain ranges, continental plateaus, and undersea ridges that can be felt by running a finger across the globe surface, in addition to being seen through the hypsometric color scheme applied to the cartographic print. The raised terrain is achieved through a thermoformed outer shell process where the ABS sphere is vacuum-formed over a precision mould carrying the topographic data of the Earth’s surface at the 30cm scale — producing raised mountain ranges across the Himalayas, Andes, Rockies, Alps, and other major cordilleras, and recessed ocean basins that the eye and fingertip can navigate together. The hypsometric coloring applies elevation-specific color bands from deep ocean blue through continental shelf turquoise, coastal green, lowland olive, mid-elevation brown, and high-altitude grey-white, with pure white applied to permanent ice and glacial coverage. This elevation-color relationship teaches the visual language of physical cartography that topographic maps and relief illustrations use. The physical terrain is complemented by political boundary lines and country name labels printed in a color that contrasts clearly with the hypsometric base without overwhelming the terrain reading. The aluminum meridian ring is graduated for latitude reference. The die-cast zinc base is weighted for stability on the wider shell profile that the raised terrain produces compared to a smooth-surface globe of equivalent diameter.
