The Globalopen Vintage 30cm Wooden Meridian Globe is the premium decorative globe in Globalopen’s antique-style range — a piece distinguished from the standard Classic range by the use of genuine solid wood for the meridian ring and base hardware, providing the material authenticity and natural variation of real timber in place of the painted metal and ABS components used in the entry-level antique-style globes. The meridian ring is cut and shaped from solid oak — selected and finished by Globalopen’s woodworking partner to a 25mm cross-section that provides both the visual weight appropriate to a premium globe and the structural rigidity for a ring of this size without metal reinforcement. The oak grain is treated with a clear oil finish that preserves the natural color and grain character of the wood while providing surface protection. Degree gradations are engraved rather than printed onto the meridian surface, ensuring they remain legible indefinitely without wear or fading. The base is turned from solid mahogany in a traditional pedestal form — a single-leg design with a round foot plate — finished in a dark oil that provides color contrast between the base and the oak meridian ring. Brass hardware — the mounting pins, the polar caps, and the decorative ring at the top of the base pedestal — is solid brass rather than brass-plated, developing a natural patina over time. The cartographic print is Globalopen’s antique parchment map, printed on the 30cm shell and complemented by the traditional material palette of the stand.
