Globalopen Scientific 30cm Ocean Depth Globe

The Globalopen Scientific 30cm Ocean Depth Globe is a specialized cartographic globe designed for marine science education — a globe where the primary cartographic subject is the floor of the world’s oceans rather than the political geography of its landmasses. Seventy-one percent of the Earth’s surface is ocean, and the bathymetric terrain of the ocean floors — the mid-ocean ridges, deep trenches, abyssal plains, seamounts, and continental shelves — is as geographically complex and educationally significant as the mountain ranges and river systems of the continents, yet is omitted from virtually all standard terrestrial globes that represent ocean surfaces as uniform blue fields. The Globalopen Scientific globe addresses this educational gap by applying a full bathymetric color gradient to the ocean surfaces — seven depth zones from the shallow pale blue of the continental shelf through progressively darker blues to the near-black of the hadal zone below 6,000 meters — with contour lines at 500-meter depth intervals. Major ocean features are labeled: the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, the Mariana Trench, the Puerto Rico Trench, the Tonga Trench, the East Pacific Rise, the Carlsberg Ridge, and over 40 additional named ocean features across all five ocean basins. Continental landmasses are printed in a simple physical relief style to provide geographic context without competing with the ocean content that is the primary educational subject. The base is Globalopen’s standard weighted die-cast format in a maritime navy finish.
