The Globalopen Scholar 40cm Political World Globe is the largest and most detail-rich political globe in Globalopen’s non-illuminated range — a 40-centimeter diameter terrestrial sphere carrying Globalopen’s most comprehensive cartographic content at the scale that makes fine geographic detail legible from a normal desk viewing distance. The 40cm scale allows Globalopen’s cartographers to include over 8,000 place names across country capitals, secondary cities, towns, rivers, mountain peaks, lakes, ocean features, island groups, and geographical boundaries — a labeling density that smaller globes cannot accommodate without illegibility. Countries are rendered in a political color scheme using fourteen distinct hues that clearly differentiate neighboring territories without creating visual confusion at shared borders. The color assignment follows Globalopen’s four-color adjacency standard, ensuring no two bordering countries share the same color. Political boundaries reflect Globalopen’s 2024 cartographic update, incorporating the most recent nationally and internationally recognized territorial changes. The spherical shell is 40cm diameter ABS composite, printed in Globalopen’s twelve-color lithographic process for color accuracy and edge sharpness at the larger scale. The semi-meridian ring is cast aluminum, spring-loaded at the base connection for smooth meridian rotation. The base is die-cast zinc alloy in a satin black finish, weighted to prevent tipping on the wider 40cm globe diameter.
